MONTAGU COMES OUT OF LEFT FIELD TO DEBUT AT TABARD THEATREAnne Cox | May 19, 2017 | What's On | No Comments
Comedy is always a little outré with Out of Left Field but the theatre company excels itself with the premiere of its latest show, Montagu, an off-beat and thought provoking play about a leadership struggle in a herd of donkeys.
Greg Freeman’s Montagu, headed by stage and screen star Christien Anholt, opens at London’s Tabard Theatre next week.
It follows on from Left Field’s sell out success at the Tabard Theatre last Summer with Sherlock Holmes and the Invisible Thing.
The comedy is an allegorical and timely tale that takes a witty satirical look at leadership and power (any suggestion that Trump is an ass is purely coincidental).
Montagu is not happy. Leaders of his herd keep getting assassinated and he’s just been made the next leader.
Worse still he is now faced by the two most important issues that dominates the thinking of every new leader. “How can I stay in power” and “what will be my legacy?” Will Montagu even survive the night.
Greg Freeman edited and adapted Who’s The Boss, which became the only successful UK version of an American sitcom, becoming ITV’s long running hit, The Upper Hand.
He has since developed a career in the theatre. Writing credits at the Tabard Theatre include of No Picnic, Doig, Beak Street, DogStar and Sherlock Holmes and The Invisible Thing.
Starring in the title role is Christien Anholt, who starred in the American adventure series Relic Hunter and Mel Gibson’s Hamlet. His theatre credits include Dog Ends, Bluebird and Wastwater, all at the Tabard.
Other theatre credits include Another Time (Wyndham’s Theatre), The Trial of Jane Fonda (Park Theatre), In Praise of Love and The Hothouse (West End).
Jerome Ngonadi, Evelyn Craven and Georgia Robson complete the cast.
Montagu runs at the Tabard Theatre from May 23 – June 17.
