The Relic Hunter message board-on indult.

This short story had been written to a challenge at Going Hunting - The Relic Hunter Message Board. Topic was: Sydney and singing - just because all of us know she never sings because she says she can't.. well, we'll see ;)

Mafdet azt mondja…
Írta: Ivoryrose75
Nigel a harmadik egyiptológia könyvet olvasta át.
Megrázta a fejét.
A macska mintegy megadva magát a férfi gyengéd érintésének, szeretettel dörgölőzött a tenyeréhez, s dorombolni kezdett. A fiatalember fölemelte a macskát és a jobb karjára fektette úgy, hogy az állat feje a mellkasához simult, miközben másik kezével végigsimított a hátán
- Hölgyem, volna szíves megmondani nekem, hogy úrnője hol tartózkodik?
Mafdet fejét a teraszajtó felé mozdította, nyávogó hangot hallatva.
- Szerintem gyönyörűen énekel – válaszolt a macska helyett saját kérdésére.
Nigel Mafdettel a karján időközben a teraszra érkezett.
Nigel mosolyogva figyelte Sydneyt, amint a vázába virágot tesz, s közben a dal utolsó sorait Isabelle lemezével együtt énekelte. Csodálattal nézte, miközben Mafdet Syd lábához dörgölközött, mire úrnője a virágcsokorról a macskára nézett, majd lehajolt hozzá, hogy megsimogassa a fejét.
- Hát te mi járatban van errefelé? – kérdezte a cicát.
– s újabb mosoly küldött a nő felé.
Miért is jött? … gondolkodott … Miért is??
- Nos?
Hirtelen a táskájához nyúlt, megfeledkezve Mafdetről, aki kissé morcosan leugrott a karjáról, s Sydneyhez sietett.
- Hm… izééééé…. Bocs, Mafdet!
– mosolygott Syd.
- Hm… kösz Mafdet – szólt Nigel, s Sydneyre villantott egy szégyenlős mosolyt, amíg a táskájából elővette a könyvet.

Mafdet Says…
Written by Ivoryrose75
Nigel had read through the 3rd Egyptology book. He knew he’d seen that sign somewhere in his books, which he’d had detected the day before. However flipping through the books the 3rd time that day, made him lose his temper.
He knew the key has to be there, somewhere. Softening his weariness he started to rub his temples while his glasses slipped to the end of his nose. He couldn’t believe he skimmed over the answer.
His drapes on the window were flitting. He showed a dumbfounded face because the air hasn’t moved at all. He couldn’t understand what kind of waft made the light materials move because he couldn’t felt anything. Suddenly, as if a higher power would guide his hands, he was flipping through two pages in the book which was laying in his lap. He finally had caught sight of the sign which portrayed an ibis bird one of its wings were open and the other hugged a jackal in a protecting way.
Nigel wanted to dial Sydney’s number in his delight but he changed his mind and decided he’d better visit her in person.
As far as he knew Sydney hadn’t got any program that Saturday afternoon. He earmarked the page which contained the graphic with a colourful slip of paper and slipped the book into his satchel. He was sure, Syd would feel the same joy which he had when he found the sign.
He’d given a jump on his bike and he made the usually 10 minutes way about 8, thanks for his enthusiasm. Nigel harldy could wait to see that unique smile on her face which she showed only those times when they found something special and exciting new relic. She is so beautiful those times – thought Nigel. Not that if she wouldn’t be at other times – he wondered.
He parked his bike next to Sydney’s garden’s gate and he’d found the door open.
“Hello Syd” – greeted her but he hadn’t got an answer.
Soft music filtered through the opened windows of her house and Nigel had only heard shred of tunes. He couldn’t even realize what was he heraing.
As he reached near to the window, he felt he would hear a pleasant, low feminine singing voice. It truly felt if somebody would sing along with a gramaphone disc.
Would it be possible that Sydney was singing? Sith she always said so she didn’t like and she couldn’t sing. The voice he had heard was deliberately engaging then again. Nigel hardly believed his own ears he peeped in the window just to make himself certain about the right of his supposition, but he hadn’t seen anything.
He’d shaken his head. No. That couldn’t be possible Sydney was singing! Maybe it was only his imagination which had played with him. Although Nigel if he wanted to be true to his heart aways would wanted to know how Sydney could sing. He never believed her truly when she had said she had had terrible singing voice otherwise she was great in everything.
Nigel started his way to the patio’s door from which way he had heard the voice. He wanted to know incrasingly if he really had have heard Sydney’s singing and whether his supposition had been right. He hoped he hadn’t went wrong.
Nigel’d pried in the next window but he still couldn’t see her. He suddenly stumbled of something which was soft and not too big and as if he looked down on it, he faced at a quite crabby Mafdet.
Nigel smiled and said
“Excuse me Miss Mafdet because I haven’t noticed your whereabouts earlier. Conjure your grace because of my clumsiness.”
Mafdet turned her head away from him sublimely than she let out a forgiving, transcendence high class “meow”.
Nigel had been sit on his heels for that time, next to the animal and he gently pet her shiny, black fur. The cat, at it were bow for the man’s gentle touch, had affectionately grazed to his palm and had started her purring. The young man had lifted up the cat and had flat her on his right arm the way her head had slicked to his chest while he’d pet her backside with his other hand.
“Miss Mafdet, would you please tell me where should I find your Mistress?”
Mafdet turned her head towards the patio door while she was letting out another “meow”. Nigel smiled again on the animal’s reaction.
There wasn’t any doubt for now, the soft, low and sensual singing voice, which had effected a joyful thrill on Nigel’s scruff, belonged to Sydney.
“Don’t you think Sydney has a very nice voice?” – He asked the animal.
“I think she’s singing beautifully” – he answered his own question instead of the cat.
Nigel with Mafdet on his arm arrived to the patio. Caught sight of her Mistress, the cat asked for a lift down and went for greeting her and notify about the visitor.
Nigel with a smile on his lips had watched Sydney as she’d been putting some flowers into a vase while she was singing the last tunes along with Isabelle’s song. He watched Syd admiringly while Mafdet grazed to her foot whereof she looked from the bunch of flowers at the cat and she’d banded down to pet her.
“What wind blows you here?” – She asked the kitten.
Mafdet let out another “meow” as an answer while she grazed her head into Syd’s touch, then she started her way towards Nigel following with a “meow”. Syd’s gaze followed the cat and when she had caught sight of her assistant a little smile turned up on her lips.
“Hello Syd” greeted Nigel. “Mafdet and I was chatting in the last several minutes” – he started. “I’d been up to ask her to notify my arrival to you” – than he smiled at his boss.
Suddenly Sydney’s cheeks flushed. She hoped that Nigel hadn’t have heard when she had been singing along with Isabelle’s disc. She collected herself in several moments than she greeted her assistant.
“Hi Nigel” – She said. Although she held herself quite hard she still felt embarrassed.
What would Nigel think about her singing? Was he heard how was she singing? Eventhough she knew, no matter how terrible her singing voice was Nigel would never reproach her for this, she still hoped she hadn’t disappointed him.
Mafdet meanwhile returend to Nigel. He’d banded down to lift her and hold her the way he did earlier then she let out a content “meow” for the touch of the man.
Nigel had been noticing Sydney’s embarrass and he’d continued his saying
“Mafdet had told me how much she’d liked when you had been singing. In her opinion you have very nice singing voice.” – Then he sent another smile towards the woman.
“Thank you Mafdet” – she turned towards the cat, then she gifted Nigel with a beautiful smile. “What wind blows you here, Nigel?” – She asked.
Nigel had been under the charm of the earlier happening and he’d still heard Sydney’s soft singing in his mind. Now that was his turn for flush.
Why did he come? ….. he was thinking … Why did he?
“Well?” – asked Sydney.
“I…I just … had found the sign of the stone tablet which we’d got yesterday in one of my books.” – He replied.
He suddenly reached for his satchel while he’d forgot about Mafdet who’d jumped down from his arm grimly and hurried towards Sydney.
“Hmmm…I… I am sorry Mafdet.”
Mafdet let out a disaffected “meow” then Sydney lifted her up and pet her head.
“Mafdet says she isn’t mad at you wherefore you pushed her that hard before. She hardly felt it” – smiled Syd.
“Hm… thanks Mafdet” said Nigel, and he flashed a shy smile at Sydney while he got out the book of his satchel.
